ZOMBI 3 - review by Grizzly

"Why don't you go clean room four, there's a disgusting smell in there"

I'm pretty easy to please.

Give me something with "Zombi" at the start and a number on the end.

In 1978 George Romero's opus Dawn of the Dead was released. It set the standard for every zombie film that followed. Internationally it was released simply as Zombi. When the film hit Italy something amazing happened. Lucio Fulci saw an opportunity to release an unofficial sequel Zombi 2 (1979). Equal parts epic and utterly ridiculous, Zombi 2 is still the standard in zombie Vs Tiger shark mega-battles (click for battle. You know you want to).

Zombi 2 isn't bad for a B-Movie but don't be fooled - it's really got nothing to do with Dawn of the Dead; in Italy in the late 70's it seems like you could take any franchise premise and make your own sequel. God bless the Europeans, and Italy in particular - one time world-wide hot bed for incestuous and completely out of control unofficial sequel zombie films.

Whilst there are countless films in the bastardized 1970-something European zombie genre the number of directors (all in one writer/producer etc) responsible are comparatively few. The following is my best attempt at a visual summation:

Enter Zombi 3 (imdb).

And enter this man:

Claudio Fragasso. The mastermind behind Cheese masterpiece Troll 2.

Zombi 3 is the Claudio zombie film; the cheese-man's zombie film, perhaps best described as an action movie.

Do you like action?

How about smoke machines?

M16's?

Flying zombie heads?

Zombie babies with inconceivable man-sized hands?

Tool and weapon proficient zombies?

Zombie birds?

And army men on the hunt for babes?

If you answered yes to the above take a tip from old Grizz and get on this cheese. It doesn't get much better.
