Poultrygeist - review by Grizzly

"See if you can find his rectum. I think it's over by the grill somewhere"

In Poultrygeist (imdb) Lloyd Kaufman delivers his magnum opus.

And it's about fucking time.

Arbie and Wendy are high school sweethearts but the fairy tale is ending. Wendy is going to college, she will be leaving town. This leaves Arbie to tend to his "retarded" parents and presumably waste away in a dead-end small-town existence.

When new fast food outlet "American Chicken Bunker" opens up in town a mostly vegetarian / lesbian protest group gathers at it's doors, lead by none other than Wendy (and her new lesbian girlfriend). Arbie stumbles upon the scene, and heartbroken, decides the best way to get back at Wendy is to take a job in the Chicken Bunker.

A fresh batch of eggs arrive in the kitchen. Only they are green, vein covered and pulsating. These eggs combine with an angry Native American spirit - providing the perfect 'recipe' for a decidedly scatological, Indian-spirit infused man-chicken zombie armageddon.

Lets be honest; the idea of Troma films is generally much more appealing than the actual films.

In many ways this is true of Poultrygeist too, however you should really give this film a chance, especially if you enjoyed the more contemporary Troma fair such as Tromeo and Juliet (imdb) and Terror Firmer (imdb). And especially give this a chance if you love explicit bum, dick and poo jokes.

For you will find that no other (non-German porno) film delivers quite so adequately in this regard.

The other thing Poultrygeist delivers is gore. And I'm not talking about the usual "break out the giant dick prosthetic we used in the last film" Troma gore (though it does get a run). This is a gore encrusted burger of colossal proportions. Peter Jackson's Brain Dead (imdb) is the only comparison that springs to mind in terms of pure and unrelenting Loony Tunes style gore.

The rest of it is what you'd expect from Troma: politically incorrect exploitation, terrible acting and simulated sex with frozen chickens. It's nice to see Lloyd Kaufman himself puts in a performance that is actually decent - even playing it straight on occasion.

And then there is the fact that the first half of the film actually a musical, think Zappa's Joes Garage album with more bum, dick and poo jokes. Much more bum, dick and poo jokes.

A sample of the soundtrack:

And so it is with much enthusiasm that I report: Poultrygeist is a tour de force of gore soaked, politically incorrect shit jokes.

Who'd have thought that after all these years Troma would actually deliver a genuine classic?
